MS Electrolysis
What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the only way of removing hair permanently. We use a fine probe and insert this into the hair follicle. A current is then applied to destroy the root to stop it from growing back.
Electrolysis works on all hair and skin colours and can be used to remove hair anywhere you want. Electrolysis takes approx. 18 months to complete all sessions but this will vary between people depending on various factors such as having a hormone disorder, you were plucking or waxing beforehand, not being consistent with your electrolysis treatments etc. As you progress with your treatments they will space out longer in between your sessions depending on your hair growth.
Is it painful and are there any side effects?
Some people find there is slight discomfort whilst getting electrolysis hair removal treatments, but it is tolerable.
Essentially it really depends on the individual and what area is being treated as some spots are more sensitive then others.
If you prefer, you can obtain numbing cream from the pharmacist and refer to their instructions how to use it.
Some possible side effects of electrolysis are:
Swelling - This is normal and will usually subside within 24 hours. Sometimes people like to put a cooling pad on top of the treated area to minimise this.
Small Scabbing - Also completely normal as this is your skins way of healing. Ensure you do not pick or scratch at them and let your skin heal naturally
Pigment changes - During the healing process there is a possibility the treated area can go slightly lighter or darker whilst the skin is healing. This is usually temporary but sometimes on rare occasion can be permanent.
Scarring - This is very rare and only happens when there is overtreatment of the skin
Following the pre and after care advice will minimise the chances of unwanted side effects.
What to do before and after your electrolysis treatment.
Pre treatment
Before you come in for your electrolysis session please ensure you avoid sun exposure, drink plenty of water, keep your skin moisturised and do not use chemical peels or retinol for at least 2 weeks beforehand.
Post Treatment
Your skin will have some slight swelling after your treatment and some people may develop small scabs (all completely normal) You need to make sure you keep your treated area clean, do not touch, scratch or exfoliate the treated area, stay out of the sun, avoid hot baths, saunas and other activities that will make you sweat more than usual whilst you let the skin heal and do not pluck or wax in between treatments.
